Foundations
I’ve been fascinated with homes for as long as I can remember.
As a child, I made houses for my toys out of sticks and arranged little piles of rocks to create different rooms, with subsequent smaller piles between them to make hallways.
In elementary school, I built forts from scrap wood and turned the willow tree in our front yard into my own imaginary kitchen, sweeping the dirt floor with a broom made of grass. I named it “Grandmother Willow” - because… Pocahontas… and it was the 90s.
In middle school, I spent countless hours with a notebook and gel pens drawing axonometric perspectives of my bedroom (I didn’t even know what an axon was at the time), imagining different decorations, art on the walls, and bedding of all kinds. Blow up chairs, anyone?
In high school, I could frequently be found at 2 a.m. rearranging furniture in my room because I thought it “could be better over there.” My poor mother was invited at least once a week to come in and tour my “new room” and offer her praise for how what I had done this time was more creative than the last.
In college, I worked as a ResLife Ambassador, giving tours to incoming students and their parents, easing their worries and helping them find the dorms that would be the right fit for them. This is where I first learned that the “right fit” usually means different things to different people. For instance, for dads and daughters when it’s a co-ed floor. I quickly picked up the skill of mediating between clients with differing opinions.
As a professional, I’ve always gravitated toward projects that matter most to the people who use them. Often, this is homes, because that’s where life happens. It’s where people grow, change, and thrive through all the phases of their lives. Where people invest everything they have into making it ‘right’, or suffer the consequences of it being ‘wrong.’ I’ve always placed focus on understanding and uncovering what truly matters to clients and helping bring it to life.
Now, as I embark on this adventure, I get to do this on my own terms. I can offer that service from a place of passion, while being present for my kids in a way that works for our family. This practice is about creating spaces that are personal, thoughtful, and built around the people who actually live in them. It’s about listening, collaborating, and helping families shape homes of all kinds that support the lives they want to lead.
This is the beginning of a journey I’ve been building up to for years, decades even. Helping families design homes that truly fit their lives is exactly why I’m here. I look forward to learning, growing, and laying the foundations of my own practice, one thoughtful home and one purposeful family at a time.
